I was the designated driver for our plein air trip to Moss Landing, Monterey, Ca. Myself and a couple of friends decided to set out early and set up and be ready to paint at 6 am. As we were approaching Moss Landing the sky was just starting to change color, bringing with it some pink hues. I couldn’t keep my head straight and facing forward!
Of course we got there and set up to paint at 6am and the sun was just coming through. On location we tend to paint on a small canvas. I did a 6×12 of the scene in front of me. However I was not satisfied with the outcome of that painting and decided to use that as my basis for composition and re-create the colors, atmosphere and depth of my feelings of that early morning in June.
